For the peanut gallery:

Here is part of a post from Dogzapper which may help:

Most folks believe that the .22-250 is simply a necked-down .250 Savage. This is not true. The .250's shoulder angle is 26 degrees, 30 minutes and the .22-250 has a shoulder angle of 28 degrees. Also, most sources agree that the dimension between the case head and the shoulder is roughly .003" more forward on the .22-250 (a result of the sharper shoulder, no doubt).

You're right about the single shot. I am only using it for groundhogs and I can't say I have really needed a fast follow-up shot. Plus if I shoot five in a day I have had a great day.

FYI barm,
The Speer 90gr Hotcore was designed by Speer for use on deer sized game back when the 244 Remington came out with slow twisted 1-12" barrels.
Most would not stabilize a 100gr cup & core bullet like the 243 Win. would with its original 1-10" twist barrels, which limited the 244 Rem. to pretty much varmit type bullets of the day to hunt with, often with poor results.
The 1-12" barrels stabilize the 90gr H.C. fine and are actually a pretty tough bullet for a C&C.
I used to shoot them years ago before we had all the bullet choices we have today in my 244 Rem. and layed down alot of deer and hogs with them. Lots of the deer shots were complete pass thru shots on blacktail deer.
I think I've still got 4-5 hundred of them laying around.

Good Luck,
Ted smile

Ted,

Thank you for the response. I will have to get some for my uncle and cousin to try in their rifles. If I choose to load some in my 6BR, do you think the lower velocity would still allow adequate expansion on deer?

I think they would work fine.
They have a good soft point on them. The reason they call them "Hotcore" is because they add the lead while molten to get it to adhere to the jacket material.
Not exactly a bonded bullet like todays, but definately a tougher bullet than the Speer boatail C&Cs (Vernan Speer was ahead of the times on some things).
The pass thru shots I've had were all ribcage shots and blacktail deer are not generally large and don't offer alot of resistance thru the ribs.
Where I hunt can change from wooded areas with shorter shots and nearby alot of wide open spaces where the shots are longer.
I've shot deer out 200-400yds or so with them with lower velocity impact speeds and they expanded fine and stayed in the deer.
I wouldn't be afraid to use them in your 6BR at all.
There are plenty of other good bullets out there as well - I think a 95gr Nosler Ballistic Tip would be a dandy out of your 6BR on deer (plus they are on average more accurate).

Good Luck whatever you decide,
Ted smile
