270 w/180 gr Woodleighs. Gunner You meant 30-06. No such thing in a .270. If there were any to be had Ingwe would've mentioned it. He likes to hide the gayness and call them 6.8-06. Did they drop the requirement that all .270s have to have a Tom264 rainbow stock installed?
This is a shooting forum, there is no place here for logic.

That and it's good to keep one around for the little kids to shoot...
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

Ain't nothing wrong with a 270 just 30 06 will do way more.. oh-oh!!! Here we go again. But I vehemently disagree. B.I.F.

I always aim for brush in front of the deer, as I want the bullet to tumble as it hits. Maximum damage that way. I'm going to have to try this.

A 160 Partition in a 270 will "load you up for bear" too.

The rifle/cartridge I was replacing when I built my .270 ( an AI, FWIW) was NOT my '06, it was an M70 .264. My '06/M17 Enfield was replaced by rebarrelling to .300 WinMag. I restocked the rifle in woodshop in highschool in 1964, and still carry it in 2014!(just not as far, or fast, lol) I know a lot of hunters that use those "see-thru" mounts. It's just too hard to see a moving target through them. I use QD mounts of one kind or another. Iron sights are for fast-moving game. I hunted in eastern Washington, what does THAT count as? East or West? Now I hunt in Nevada...Doesn't count much as "woods", anywhere, lol. Have fun, Gene

Everybody knows that round-nose bullets are the best for brush-busting, regardless of chambering, as they part the brush and stay on course rather than tumbling when they hit brush like pointy bullets do, ask any deep woods hunter worth his mettle and he'll tell you the same.

In my neck of the deep woods or even the flat country I am more used to, a 30-06 loaded with a good 165g bullet around 2900fps would be about as good a combo as you'd find.
Having said that, the 270 Win with 150 grainers around the same speed would be every bit as good. This latter combo has taken more than 100 pigs for me in the last couple of years from thick timber country to vast open country over grasslands and crops.
A lot to like with either. Been mainly shooting 180s in my 30-06 because I have the lighter weights covered with other calibres.
