Re: Feedback on the 90's era Winchester Miroku 1886 .45-70's

Not a direct comparison, but I had a Browning/Miroku M71 in .348 Winchester.
If the quality of manufacture of this rifle is any indication of the 1886's quality level, it will be a very good gun. Action was smooth, wood was nicely figured and the wood/metal fit was great. The metal was well finished with a deep bluing. No tang safeties or rebounding hammers, just old-school half cock.
All in all, it was a well manufactured rifle. I kinda wished I hadn't been talked out of it, but dollars will do that.

Re: Phil Shoemaker Video On Big Bears

Good thoughts.
I have a 10mm which I bought to carry in the western mountains. I have a 9mm CZ75 compact that shoots like a dream for me.
The 10mm is an XDM elite. I shoot it fairly well but not as well as the 9mm.
Shots on target. Control. Recoil management. A lot to consider.

Re: Say you hit a dog....

I hit a doe yesterday morning, stopped to make sure she wasn't ok, the FJ Cruiser was skinned up, so coming home an hour later I checked the doe again...still dead...so out comes the backstraps. Ordered the front bumper cover last night, 175 bucks. Anybody ever eat 175 dollar deer meat? It better be good at that price. Should'a took the one good hindquarter...but I was afraid the Highway Patrol would come along...meat price would have been a lot higher. Around here if you want to salvage meat from the deer you just call the sherrif and get a possesion permit for the carcass. Doesn't apply to dogs!

WTB .338 Barrel Blank

I’m looking for a #2 contour .338 barrel blank. Building a dream 338-06, and want to keep the weight down.
Thought I would see if somebody has a project barrel they might like to turn loose of. Thx.

I never rely on ONE set of reloading die sets. There are plenty with different features. ^^ This Different brass, different rifles. A die can work well with one brand/lot of brass, but another die can work better with another brand of brass or different rifle.

That is a truly unusual stock from Klaus. Most of his stocks were done in an American classic style. The stock on the Hagn, for instance, is much more American than Martin would make. KB's rifle is very Austrian. I worked with Klaus a bit when he was in Kelowna, and I was in Kamloops. He and Hiede were very nice people. GD

Old scope and mount
BillyGoatGruff
04/23/24
A buddy just inherited an old Remington 721 in 300 H&H with a kollmorgan scope and Stith mounts. The mount was spring loaded in the middle with all adjustments being on the exterior of the scope.
I have an old weaver v8 with the external adjustments on the rear ring. But I’d never seen this kinda setup before. Kinda neat.
Were they a common thing? Whole setup dates to the 50’s.

Re: Consumer reports: the five lowest maintenance car brands:
fortymile
04/23/24
One of these magazines did an article 2-3 years back about trying to drive your vehicle to 200k or something along those lines. Their suggestions were to buy a Toyota or Honda, and if you needed a truck, an F150. I thought it was kind of funny as my driveway contained an older Accord, older Highlander, a new Camry, and a fairly new F150. I've only been buying my own cars for a bit over 20 years, but have had quite a number of previously-owned Toyota products across all those miles. Very few "oddball" maintenance items other than the typical consumable items like wheel bearings, belts, brakes, etc. One SUV needed a fuel pump at 50k miles or so, but it was under warranty. Appeared to be just a bad part.
Serious question though, how are hybrids holding up now that some have some age on them? I see that the 2025 model Camry is only going to come in a hybrid version. Part of the appeal of the Camry to me has been the conventional engine and transmission, as you are likely getting a good 12-15 years out of the car with pretty good resale. Not sure about all the hybrid components at 10+yrs and 200k+ miles. I have a 2015 Toyota Camry Hybrid. It has over 150,000 miles on it. I'm not the original owner but I've put about 20,000 miles on it and it's been flawless. I change oil every 5,000 miles and don't need to add any between changes (some model year Toyotas have been known to develop oil consumption due to low tension piston rings). I would definitely buy another Toyota hybrid.

What is NR?
I’ve been watching left hand actions of all types on GB for years now. Pricing has skyrocketed. I was surprised to see the bass pro link someone shared with a 338 for $600. There were two factory blued models on GB for months on end in the high teens.
