I firmly believe that Trump was able to hold Putin and Iran’s mullahs in check because he incorporated his version of The Ryan Doctrine.
The Ryan Doctrine was Jack Ryan’s way of dealing with recalcitrant dictators (it was also Iran in the novels). Basically, he told the mullahs that, if they started a war, he would not send young American men to fight their young men. He’d go directly for the mullahs - cut off the head of the snake.
It worked in the novels and it worked for Trump.

Re: when the stupid get lucky !! (bicyclist related)

I was in LA one day in the big rig, stuck in a traffic jam. The interstate was six lanes in each direction and the road was packed with hundreds of vehicles sitting still. Suddenly, I heard a motorcycle, and i saw in my mirror a guy running about 40 mph on a Harley, running on the white line between the cars. He passed me right under my left side mirror, and I watched him drive out of sight.
I thought that was the stupidest thing I ever had seen. What if somebody opens their door? I found out later that it is legal for motorcycles to drive like that in California.

He is an anomaly. A Liberal with a rational brain. Reptiles respond to heat. Maher is a rusty windmill that only turns in a strong wind of long duration. A dead hunk of iron does that too, but is more ethical and better acquainted with morality.

Re: Percussion cap alternatives

I make my own with the prime all compound and they're better than factory caps, except for the corrosive part, but black powder needs cleaned after shooting anyways. My 3d printed caps are also completely self clearing and don't cause any cap jams at all. DIY Percussion Cap Cup Assembly Kit https://a.co/d/gfyxZLfThanks for the link Is there somewhere I can go to read about Shooters experiences using the product ? Thanks

Re: Barnes 139LRX for 7RemMag

This week I loaded 3 shot groups working down from the Barnes maximum charge of H4831sc in increments of 1%. Barnes online data lists 69.1 grains as the max charge. So 67.7 and 68.4 gave 3039 and 3047 fps respectively, (basically the same velocity) but 69.1 gave me 3101 fps which matches the Barnes load data almost exactly (Barnes data calls for 3107). The 68.4 charge gave me a .426" group and the 69.1 measured .501". Pretty good accuracy. I still think I can get into the mid 3100s with accuracy. I plan to walk up in .5 grain increments. I have a 140 grain Nosler ballistic tip load that did not show pressure until 72.5 grains.

I’m tossing up between the LR Accubond 265grain or the 300grain which should I choose? 300 SMK? What do you intend to use it for? Which shoots the best in that rifle? I have only used the 265 Long Range Accubond on game, and that was only one time. The bullet performed well at 624ish yards on a mature Red Stag, but since the shot was placed well, most bullets would work too. One and done.

Re: Book Recommendation: Nuclear War: A Scenario

The book One Second After is about life after an EMP. We would get an EMP if N. Korea blew a single nuke 10 miles above Omaha. That would knock out all electricity and all vehicles in the United States.
It is a realistic and grim look at life after just one nuke. ps You will need some guns and lots of ammo.

"Brush pants"
bwinters
04/21/24
Did a little turkey hunting yesterday and ended up walking through the corner of 2 clearcuts. My Sitka Timberlines now have a bunch of fabric snags and my legs look like I had no pants on.
So - what hunting brush pants you guys wearing? I don't want the classic canvas pants - have them. Looking for something that I can wear turkey hunting and scouting.
First lite Sawbuck look interesting and about what I have in mind.
Options and thoughts?

Re: .405Win Barrel
Pappy348

As you no doubt know, the .405 appears to be pretty hard to feed right now. When I was looking, I used to see quite a few of them for sale, but I lost interest over the availability of brass. The right person might want it, but who is it?
Other options would be to keep the barrel and restore the rifle to original if you don’t like the .460, sell the whole rifle and buy a factory .454 or .460, or have it rebored to .444, which would be my choice as I’ve always liked that cartridge from afar. Not sure about the dimensions of the .444, but I suspect it would work, and .444 brass and ammo are available. Heavy bullets from it would come pretty close to .405 power, and there are plenty of those out there.
