Doc; I've used the 170 Speer and the 170 Hornady on deer up to 178 lbs, and on hogs up to 260 lbs. However, on a "TROPHY QUEST" series some time ago, the .30-30 with 170gr bullet (not clear on make) was used to take a Bison out west over 1000 lbs..... Seems like it would be satisfactory for anything you'd care to hunt.
