My favorite whitetail bullet in the 308 was always the 150 Speer Hotcore. Used that combo to take my largest many years ago, an old 4x4 that dressed out over 200 lbs. Bullet was a complete pass thru. I call the Hotcore, "the poor man's partition."

Scott, many decades ago I went to university in St. Louis MO. I shot that buck out in the far flung Western edge of St. Louis County, a place with great whitetail genetics. I saw more than one genuine B&C book buck there, including one that was genuinely over 200." Of course, I tried to get permission on that property, but the answer was a resounding "no."
But yes, occasionally I shoot a MT whitetail. Last one was four years ago:
