I like them both a great deal. To take the short action argument a tad further, I will mention that it is rare to see a .25-06 with a barrel shorter than 22". Generally they have 24" barrels. To some that doesn't matter, but to others, a rifle with a 20" tube is more to their liking. If you like a shorter rifle, the 7mm-08 is the way to go. If a standard length rifle is what you want, you can go either way.

Be assured though, that either cartridge is a fine deer killer and you won't go wrong no matter which you choose.
