The Savage is too heavy & bulky, the winchester is too hard to scope & inaccurate, and the Marlin is perfect.
I'm thinking you haven't carried a Savage 99 much, if you think they are heavy and bulky. Due to the balance, and actually fairly light weight, they carry very well. Quite slender in an EG, anyways. Model 94 Win., 20" barrel - 7#. Savage 99EG, 24" barrel - 7.5#. Seem pretty close.
