I like this thread, fun to read everyones responses.
I shot my last deer with a 30-30 in 1991, a spike mule deer when I was 16 years old, unfortunately haven't shot one with it since. In fact I killed the first 6 deer of my life with my 30-30, a Savage model 340 with open sights, including the biggest deer I have ever killed to this day- a big 7x3 mulie I shot when I was 14. Still the biggest I've shot out of 21 deer and 22 years of carrying a rifle, many rifles that were much bigger than a 30-30.
I'm finally gonna hunt deer in two different states this year, maybe I'll pull the little bugger out and hunt with it again in one of the states, I miss it and it would just be fun to hunt with open sights again.
