I watched just a few minutes of that show. Couldn't stand any more.
Bears aren't called large, dangerous animals for nothing. Good intentions don't change the fact that fella was making nice with PREDATORS!! Predators large enough to kill and eat people....
When I read in forums like this one that a .44 Magnum is the minimum handgun you should consider for Grizzly Bear protection, I'm thinkin', "Don't want to get near one of those animals. The bear's gonna hurt me or the gun's gonna hurt me. Not good options here."
