Pretty easy stuff, huh?

1. Not necessarily. In fact, ironically, in Oklahoma where this took place, the OHP has a exception in the state statutes, that their dash cam video is NOT public record, but instead must be subpoenaed or by court order.

Always dangerous to make blanket statements about something that is defined by state law, because states can vary quite a bit.

"bad cops work for somebody that is either elected, or works at the will of an elected official"

So does the NSA, IRS and BATFE.....

Unless it changed since 2011, the Oklahoma Court of Civil Appeals ruled that a dash-cam video is public record.

We may not like our elected officials and or they do, but the remedy is obvious.

It ruled that municipalities must comply. OHP has a specific exception.

A quick google search shows the issue (of dash cams being public record) is contested all over the country.

For example, Vermont claims it's Highway Patrol doesn't have to comply because it's "criminal evidence". Seattle claims it's PD doesn't have to comply because of privacy laws.
