The 1076 (frame-mounted decocker model, Commander-length 4.25" barrel) was the FBI issued model, for a short time. I shot one and it was very robust, but not terribly accurate. 1006's were available with both fixed Novak sights, and adjustable rear sight. Hogue also made replacement rubber grips for them. There was also a 1066, commander-length version, and a 1026, which was full length, but I forget which action, maybe decocker, maybe DAO)

The .40 S&W rolled along, and because S&W realized they could chamber it in 9mm frame pistols, which not only allowed a smaller pistol, but also made higher capacity possible, compared to the full-length 10mm.
