Tex, there is an awful lot of old time perspective out there for the .25-20 Win. This fella seems to know a thing or two, though from his text he and I have had slightly different results on the path to success. When you're out and about at the gunshows, keep and eye out for the Ideal 257283 mould. It's a winner, though not the only game in town.

Next time you have that rascal un-assed, PLEASE lay the lever / link / block group out in something close to the same geometry as what I've posted, and get some pics of the setup found on your particular 44.

I haven't found a 44 action trashed bad enough to cut in half Or segment-mill into a fitting and tuning fixture, and can damn sure use help here.
