Some kind of falling-block single shot, no doubt about it. If your eyes are up to it, get one with irons, but there are good options for vintage-style scopes too.

The more I play with the ones I have, the better I like them. No magazines to stuff or cause cartridge-length problems, just plunk one in and shoot. If you go rimfire, you don't even have to pick up the brass. Small centerfire rounds are fun too: .22 Hornet, .32/20, .357, .44s etc. New Winchester Low Walls and decent Eyetalians go for about $1109-$1200. If you're feeling prosperous, there are a couple of small domestic outfits that make nice ones too, at a price of course.
