I've fished numerous times out of Seward (Cracker Jack and the Military chicken barge). I'm concerned about the 3 1/2 hour trip each way and pulling up an 80+ pounder from 290 feet for a 90 pound kid.

And Cook Inlet tides and a huge sinker will be more fun?
