I started with a Marlin lever 30-30 336c. I could afford it and paided $125 for it. It was a return item at Service Merchanise. Next came a LNIB Ruger M77 Tanger in 30/06 i bought from a guy for $100 who had gotten it as part of a car deal. So I wonder how many people used these iconic deer calibers , particularly the 30-30 because they where the least expensive way to get into a first effective rifle.
