Been that way in my super red state of hillbilly utopia since I bought my first rifle in the 1980s.

Idaho uses FBI "Instant Check" Your name, SS # optional, Rifle? Shotgun? or Handgun? That is all the FBI asks for.

The 4473 is a different matter. It records identifying firearms data, but it is not automatically uploaded to federal or state data base. Although, I would not place any bets with Walmart's electronic 4473.
