I love pre-64's to death, but agree with some (most?) here that there's no harm-no foul in using up to date mounts and scopes on them. One doesn't wreck the originality of the rifle after all, and if one mounts a scope then evidently one intends to use it, so why not? The best "period scopes" from two or three generations ago don't hold a candle to most current mediocre scopes.

I'm old enough that I consider all pre-64 M70's to have been born in the "modern" era. What I consider old is stuff made in the 20's and before.
