The Israelis have long been known to deal with violent protesters by simply taking down the primary aggressors. They put a suppressed .22 into them, wounding them. This usually has a very good deterrent effect with the crowds.

The SOP is to shoot them in the abdominal region. It is extremely painful and usually requires others to carry them from the protest area.
