I've carried lots of double action .38 Special revolvers over these past 40 years. Nothing wrong with it, assuming you know how to shoot a double action revolver well. Six rounds will cover the vast majority of situations in which you will need to draw a gun to save your life, and well placed .38 Specials will do the job in most cases.
It's the minority of situations that I worry about, though, and why I like to carry a double stack 9mm instead, nowadays.
