I recall reading a history article on how the Gestapo was able to maintain control of the German population with so few Gestapo agents throughout
Germany, The answer was the German population was encouraged to "Snitch" on each other, family, friends, fellow workers.
Have we come to that in the United States???
Same with the KGB and Russia.
