Bonanza began in 1860. I distinctly remember they had a show where the Civil War was about to erupt. Little Joe's mom was from the South and he supported the Rebels. Either Hoss or Adam I don't recall, liked the Yankees. So it seemed like there would be a Civil War in the Cartwright family.
