As is often normal for me, I learned more after a project was completed. Had I been aware of the .375 Alaskan an improved .348 case necked to .375 caliber I may have went that route instead of a .348 Ackley Improved. A .375 caliber bullet weighing 270 grains at near 2,600 fps mv out of a peep sighted Mod. 71, that is some serious 250 yard bear and moose medicine. I believe I read Ben Stevenson, son of late big game guide Ed Stevenson is carrying that same set up for backing up hunters when going after those big salmon fed brownies he hunts.

I think he was using the 270 grain Hawk flat nose bullet and I don't know the jacket thickness. I would prefer a Partition or bonded bullet, but who makes such a flat nose .375 bullet?

For my hunting here in Alaska, which will mainly be moose at under 100 yards, the .348 Ackley Improved and 250 grain ABW bonded bullets will work splendidly!
