Somebody supposedly wrote something from 399 B.C.E. and you choose to believe it. You have no proof that it’s true, but you still choose to believe that it is. I'm not convinced Socrates did exist, and believe it's more likely he did not. They story of his death doesn't read like history, it reads like fiction, similar to sacrifice of other fictional exhausted beings.
