If it doesn't rain well this spring, we'll be sending anout half the herd to town to take a similar beating. Drought last summer, with a hail storm in June that hammered about 1/3 of our pasture.


Around here, I'm wondering if there's going to be even 1/2 the herd left at the end of this. Spot price for hay has crept above $300 per ton, some touching $350. Guys that didn't have their hay bought have no choice but to pay and go broke, or sell and go broke.

It's just brutal.
