At higher blood lead levels a person may develop general symptoms of illness like abdominal pain, headache, fatigue, irritability, and joint or muscle aches. At very high blood lead levels, a person can develop nerve damage that causes numbness in the hands and feet and a condition called “foot drop” where it is hard to raise the toes when the foot is lifted off the ground.
