Don't the Ukrainians get to decide that for themselves? Given they haven't done as you asked - isn't it reasonable then to assume that's not what they want? Don't they have a right to self determinization or are we, the US just "knowing better then them, for them" on this?

Laws are an expression of the will of the people. When parliament illegally removed the sitting president in 2014, they went against the will of the people. Besides that, a lot of them have decided for themselves - they seceded in 2014ish and the Ukrainian government has been attacking them ever since. Do they have a right to live in peace? Do they have the human right of freedom of association?
