Heresy here I’ve never warmed up to a 308. Had a little Mohawk 600 my father thought was a good woods gun, gave it to my nephew before it ever went hunting. As a 7mm RM guy the 308 seems just too slow no matter that lots of friends & relatives use them to fill lots of freezers.

The OP ‘s wood stocked savage looks like a pleasant efficient tool I tend to buy synthetic stocks these days but they just aren’t as appealing as wood.

To stay unpopular I’d never use a cheaper Bushnell scope on anything but a 22. I’ve had & seen a few fail spectacularly. Sightron, Burris, Zeiss & Leupold would make it better to me for a simple point & shoot hunting tool.
