Decided to invest in dies for the .30/30 and just shoot it as is for now. Pulled the Pine Ridge 3-9 and ordered new bases from Warne, which are a bit lower than the Weavers, based on pics. Have Warne low rings if I decide to re-scope it, but like it better at just over 7lbs than over 8, so I’m gonna play with other options for a bit. Old eyes make irons tough in the field so red dots and prisms are in the running, though no doubt offensive to some. I take my responsibility to make a clean shot very seriously, so I’m going with what works for that.

Found out that Burris sells a direct-mount option for the Fastfire sights. It puts the sight much lower than a regular base/Pic mount. It mounts directly in the holes on top. Turnbull makes mounts for Winchesters that use the receiver sight holes, but nothing for the Marlins.
