The Galveston Hurricane of 1900 killed 8,000 people and blew Galveston off the map. We didn't have too many cars spewing out CO2 in that year, it was 8 years before the invention of the Model T.

Galveston had been the major port of the Gulf and afterwards they moved the Port 40 miles inland to Houston. Big channels bring ship traffic inland to Houston. Today, Galveston is a bump on the map, compared to what it was in 1899.
