The greatest threat to any backcountry horse trip is a buck off in the middle of nowhere. Any equine will do as long it is broke, broke and broke.

These guys are from Texas and I wish them all the best in the big mountains.

I had a conversation with Georgie Sicking a couple of years ago. She used to gather mustangs, wild burros, and swore that there was a whole herd of wild mules in So AZ back in the 1960s. She told me a story one day when they had no grocery money. They went out and found a flatbed full of wild burros. They got $2.50 a head and went down to the store and bought grub.

Unfortunately there is a difference between wrangling dudes and traveling thousands of miles on your own. Sometimes ambitious trips are only undertaken by those that don't have the experience to know what they are signing up for. I wish these guys all the best in their endeavors. I apologize for my prejudice against those from Texas. I used to live in Colorado.
