I feel bad for the small guy, was one myself years ago. However them big farmers, the ones that buy property in Arizona and winter there or buy 70k dollar Snow Bears and write them off for portable calf warmers, yeah boo hoo. They need need new pickups every year too.

I don't feel your frustration, but as an American you should work as little as possible and pay least in taxes as allowed by tax laws. Phil, I hope that will make you feel little better about it.

Like $876 billion distributed to dimocommie businesses instead of shovel ready infrastructure job under Zero, huh. Then the companies turn around and send billions back to their dimocommie govt offials as a thank you, right.
Now you can bitch you pos because Trump will be left with fixing our infrastructure.
BTW, you are a POS.

There are for sure some terribly wealthy farmers in the country.
My friend had to buy a Beechcraft with a turbo prop so he could build enough time in order to be able to fly wealthy Arizona farmers around in the winter.
He would fly their plane for them.

Jim, you've got a good point there. there's much discussion about profits and production. half the country/people have a negative net worth. i could live without food stamps, some others could to.

Jim's just bull chitting you guys. I grew up working on farms, everyone had new trucks, new tractors with AC,heat, and radio's. Farmers used to only work a few months a year planting and harvesting then vacation the rest of the year. It's a pretty plush job. I'd still be doing it but the competition for those jobs and benefits was too much. It's really the easiest industry to get rich in.

Cool, another $136 Billion and President Trump will have spent on Americans the same amount the Magic Negro spent on helping Iran develope nuclear weapons.
Give a man a fish and he eats for a day. Give a man a welfare check, a forty ounce malt liquor, a crack pipe, an Obama phone, free health insurance. and some Air Jordan's and he votes Democrat for a lifetime.
Food production is the obvious next step to control the population. Small family farm operations are going the way of the dodo. Buy local movement has put a kink in their plans to a small extent though. Golks are waking up to the value of fresh locally grown produce and meat. I've never been without a large garden, growing up or after leaving the house. We've always bought half a beef and a hog from family or friends and had it butchered. We buy chicken at the store but eggs from the neighbor, and obviously supplement what we don't grow and preserve, but it's a lot less than a lot of folks for sure.
Once they have single payer health care, food will be next. It will be declared that food is a right and it should be provided free to everyone.

Are there "rich" farmers, who draw a ton of money from the government every year......sure there are. But, for every one of them, there are hundreds of smaller operators working their azz off to make ends meet.......and these are the farmers that put the majority of the food on the table for the people in this country.
I live in a county that has a number of these large farmers, who farm thousands of acres, and are on the USDA list of those who draw a lot of money in the form of subsidies. But, what most people don't realize about these farmers, and in a sense they are not farmers but businessmen, is that they could have easily gone broke and lost millions instead of staying in business and becoming wealthy. They took a risk and succeeded, something that many others could not do.
The US government has long had a policy of making sure that this country has a cheap and plentiful supply of food. If they are going to regulate the farmer, and if you own a farm or are a farmer, then you must deal with the USDA, you know what I'm talking about, then they must also be prepared to help the farmer out during the bad times. Most farmers here carry crop insurance, which is designed to help them in case of situations where they lost money on a crop for a variety of reasons. The government putting a tariff on Chinese goods, which results in a loss of a market for the farmers when China stops buying their crops, is as much of a disaster as is a drought or a flood. So, I have no problem with Trump helping the farmer out.

That is a FREAKING BARGAIN. I'd be happy to pay 10x that amount to ensure the future of farming in this country. $16 Billion to US farmers for the purposes of bringing China around is a hell of a better deal than the $Trillion+ we spent in that sh*thole called Iraq.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I've read that corn farmers received a one cent per bushel payment in 2018.
AKA not chit.
We got a 15 cent bushel payment on our little wheat crop.
Didn't amount to much, maybe .5% of the annual operating budget.
Selling wheat right now for the same price it was roughly 40 years ago.
Yep. And the price of a loaf of bread is at least 10X the price for the same loaf of bread nowadays.

NAFTA killed my local commercial melon growing. People got used to cheap Mexican melons in the super markets and pitched a bitch when they came to our stand and saw slightly higher prices. I reduced my prices to my cost, which equaled the stores' prices, and they still bitched that they could just go to Safeway and pay the same price.
Quality had very little to do with the shoppers' satisfaction, so we closed down. For the next two years people would drive to my house and ask what stores carried my melons. I told them I sold all my melons to Mexico.

I have been in central CA my whole life, farmers always cry poor, but I have been to many of their spreads..usually to pour nice outside kitchens and patios.
It's not brain surgery. There are liberal areas (States), there are conserveritive areas (States), and there are neutral areas (States) that sell out to the highest bidder. It's always worked that way. Ethanol and cars got Trump elected. You can't expect those States to go unrewarded.
The only thing worse than a liberal is a liberal that thinks they're a conservative.
16 billion ? By god it’s enough to make you wanna take your pink pussy hat outa the closet and March on DC 🤦🏻♂️

You dumbass .. The biggest expense in the farm bill is food stamp/ welfare programs. Most of which feed you lazy [bleep] liberals. Take the lead and get all your Liberial buddies to quit consuming or use any type of farm product.
No one got hit as hard and fast with the trade war then the farmer....2-3 dollars a bushel less in a matter of a week...don't forget that 16 billion will go into the hand of massive economy spenders.... Or maybe we should give it to the homeless drug addicts and thugs so the money will end up in the hands of some drug cartel.

A lot of ordinary people/wage earners have been paying for a lot of years for our uneven trade situation with China, and there wasn’t much of a hand up there.
My parents farmed, and I really do feel for farmers in the current environment- it’s pretty tough out there. On the other hand, it has always bothered me a bit to see ordinary people paying taxes to ensure the profitability of millionaires - which most farmers are. At the same time, are very few professions that pay a lower effective rate of taxes than farmers.

A millionaire on paper does not necessarily make you rich. The land and equipment are necessary to farm. The equipment is part of the retirement. But I guess everybody thinks farmers are supposed to work till death so they don’t need retirement. If sum of you guys think it’s so easy just round up about 5 million and give it a go. Ed k

Support a farmers market.
Jim, there are a lot of these city folks who expect a farmer to look like Fred Ziffle, the neighbor that had the pet pig on The old TV show, Green Acres. He's supposed to wear a pair of faded overalls, a plaid shirt, a straw hat, and drive around in a 1949 model truck. They don't understand that a farmer can actually live in a nice house, dress as good as his city cousin, and afford to drive a new truck.
Years ago, a non farmer neighbor of mine complained that it wasn't "fair" that I had a farm to deer hunt on, and he didn't have a place he could hunt. This was my reply.......For years, I've worked two jobs to help pay for my farm, I've worked 18 hour days, weekends and holidays, and done without many things that I would have liked to have. Meanwhile, you own a boat and go to the lake all the time, you own an old restored car and like to be seen driving it, you have a Harley........you made a choice to buy these things instead of a place where you could go hunting, so don't be complaining to me...you made your choice, and I made mine.
It all boils down to jealousy in a lot of cases, as the non-farmers have a mindset that the farmer is getting rich, because he has all that land and equipment.
Before I retired I was on my fourth new pickup. The cost for me to drive anew pickup was half a percent of my out of pocket expenses for a year. Was it necessary? Maybe not but after 40 years of labor I was treating myself. I’m guessing most wage earners spend a way higher percent of their income on vehicles. Ed k

Well then they shouldn't be bitchin about how poor they are all the time and getting govt. handouts. I've worked my ass off and can't afford the luxuries I see alot of farmers around here have. I work in the gun business and the gun business is hurting since Trump took office but we ain't in line for any bailouts.
I dont know how it is in other places, but the "subsidy" we receive is in the form of Crop Insurance. An expensive "risk management" tool designed so the banks and others get their money first if there is a disaster.
Yes, there are some of these other payments like the subject of the OP. But they are few and far between....and really dont amount to much....like even covering the interest rate hike.
Crop insurance is very expensive. The farmer has to pay the premium.
If you use it, it becomes more expensive and you receive less coverage.
If you recrop it gets worse yet.
Some people may not know that you are required by most banks to carry crop insurance if you have a mortgage on your place.
You have to carry it to qualify for disaster assistance....sort of like hurricane or flood payments.
The crop insurance system is designed to make you grow what the govt wants. The chemical salesmen tailor their wares to this system...machinery dealers too.
Oh, and dont forget the banks.
The system works really well if you fallow your land too. In other words, only produce half your acres per year.
Its interesting, but the "subsidy" actually is a great big barrier to farm profitability. Some are forced to take it, others do it for the risk management.
You grow what the govt wants if you take their money. You will just barely break even. Your money will flow into the hands of others. You will farm for production, not profit.
Food and commodities are strategic.
Piss on em. The more you accept this "help" the more you end up relying on the bastards.
I began my outlaw farmer journey four or five years ago after attending a conference with Gabe Brown.

I work in the gun business and the gun business is hurting since Trump took office but we ain't in line for any bailouts.
That’s political. Dumbazz
Maybe you need to change businesses then. Buy you a farm and you can get rich too.....lol.
Maybe a farmer needs to get the fugg out of farming if he can't make a go of it without govt. help. Fuggin "conservatives" here are always against gov't. handouts unless it's the right people getting them. Then it's OK.

Kiss my ass you little bich. Come on up and I'll help you. It'll be alot easier for you after I knock your teeth out. Always outdoors my ass.
Trump wanting another 16 Billion farm bill bail-out again this year, that's about $500 per taxpayer each year... on top of the cost of the consumer having to pay for the tariffs on purchases. The [bleep] doesn't even understand the basics.
The farm bill has always been a congressional slight of hand. They put the welfare nutrition program in it and it's most of the cost. If we're going to pitch a fit it should be about that. Welfare needs to be a separate part of the budget. That way everyone can see just what our tax money is going for. Hiding it in the farm bill is criminal.

I disagree. I dont believe there should be any welfare.

I agree with not having any welfare but it is disingenuous to hide it in the farm bill. That's what I was saying. The jackasses hide it in the farm bill and we all get worked up about the farmers when most of the bill is for welfare.

You progressive fascists don’t know anything about economics. Obama, the USSR, Cuba and Venezuela are proof of your ignorance.

Tell you what I'm gonna do, when I get my part of the bailout, and after I get through spending it on frivolous things, if I have any left over, I'll buy a gun from you, if it'll help you out any. Okay?

Yep. Fugg the Welfare rats.
It’s supposed to help farmers compete with an unfair import market. Wheat is no longer profitable to grow in my area. We quit planting it when we sold our cattle. We used it mostly for supplemental grazing. And without the right amount of rain, it ain’t worth a damn for grazing either.

I agree it is wrong for them to hide it. If we've going to help the farmers then let's help them. I dont have a problem helping someone who gets up before dawn and.work till dark. I have a big problem helping people who dont even get up to look for work. The big book says he that doesn't work let him starve.
I have a problem with the whole taxing program. I pay around $250 a month in property tax. Our youngest granddaughter was living with us when it was time to start pre-K. We live 4 or 5 blocks from the best elementary school in our district. She was not allowed to go there because the school was at 110% capacity. We were told she would have to enroll in Dunbar. Which was on the other side of town which is all black in the projects. I went to the school with my tax statement and asked why she couldn't attend. I was told she didn't enroll a year ahead of time. The school is run by a liberal that wants to assimilate all the little wetbacks. They have had to hire several bilingual teachers because the wetbacks wont learn English.
I dont believe I should be paying school tax if I dont have kids in school. I sure shouldn't be paying to teach kids that wont learn our language.
I do not hate Mexicans, I hate wetbacks. I do not hate blacks, I hate niqqers. Our country is definitely screwed up. It's about time to take out the trash.

Fuggin wetbacks have overwhelmed our school system here. Fugg hiring teachers to teach them English. Send em back to Mexico 😡

I dont think we will receive much if any of the bail out...or what ever its called.
I do believe however...that I am driving a tractor worth less than most of the guns my gunsmith friend sells.
To starve farmers into bankruptcy and losing their farms, when they are the ones that feed this nation is the sickest thing America has chosen to allow.

Our agricultural production is one of our strengths as a nation. No reason not to keep it that way. $16B is a drop in the bucket as far as the annual budget.
Mexican nationals via La Raza have been destroying our classrooms for many years now. If you have one student that doesn't know English you have to provide Mexican speaking teachers for hi or her. Free lunch programs are a joke and whether the school needs the money or not the government requires that they keep so many students on free lunch to get their share of the taskings so schools shop the free lunch so they can get their quota. The only thing government does well is GROW and we get to pay for it.
They need it but wouldn't want you getting out of debt growing it.
ARC and PLC are basically a insurance or hedge for crop prices that guarantee a minimum price. To a degree they influence over production of the insured crops.
I think the other big hitter is China modernizing and increasing crop yields. I China is the number one wheat producer now.
We have lost a lot of fruit and vegetable production in my lifetime because of imports. I hope that trend doesn’t continue. One thing is for sure, it’s not going to get better anytime soon.

the southern hemisphere whose climate is exactly opposite to north america (well not climate but growing season) allows trans-national shipments to be profitable.
chilean fruits & veggies available in the winter in the us is a god send. well sort of, if'n ya got the money to buy the stuff.
the thing now is incredibly complex, and does not minimize the number of people who starve, but attempts to do so.
it's not so much that we might be on the wrong track, but realizing the fact we don't know what the best track is.
I knew wheat ranchers in Eastern Wa, years ago-- that got Govt pay to not raise wheat. Guess what-- they raised it anyway and sold it on the open market. Got paid twice!
Yeah, clueless. Both my grandfathers and an uncle were dairy farmers. I grew up on farms, worked on farms. Many dairy farmers got paid to not produce milk. My uncle included. Can't imagine getting paid more to produce less myself.
Most off you guys are about 30 years behind on the farm programs. I farmed for 25 years @nd never got paid to not raise anything. I’m telling you guys to just jump right in for all the easy money. Cmon now no excuses. No way to lose. It’s a safe bet. Free money! Cmon now just do it. Ed k
Well, if the Chicoms are trying to play hard ball, going after MEGA country farmers to intimidate or scare Trump, what's wrong with taking some of that tariff money we getting from them and backfilling some of the loss they slapped on targeted producers, trying to manipulate domestic politics.
I can remember my GrandMother giving me a Quarter in 1970 when I was 10 to walk to the store to buy her a loaf of bread. Same brand is $3.25 for the same loaf of bread today at the grocery store here.
I remember 39 cent bread when I first got out of high school in 1980. We pay 1.49- 1.99 now depending on where we get it. We've always bought the cheap stuff.
I remember filling up my '65 Impala once a week for a five dollar bill. It cost me $12.42 to put gas in a motorcycle today.

You might have grown up on one and worked same but i bet you did not have the danger of losing everything is the crop went south.
Everything costs more today and somethings don't last.
As for insurance every one has to have some if they are going to grow/market crops.
Hell bags of cotton seed cost almost 500.00 these days. When farming a section of land it mounts up real quick and you have no way to know how much money you will get off it until the nut cutting is done.
