No, but he was a big one...that had been eating well...
I'm still waiting for the Great Migration of Wooly Javelina to migrate back down from the north....
Sweet! Is that WY? I have been on a few nice Pronghorn but haven't been able to close the deal yet.
Ya, WY.
I have very little time for antelope this year so I choose a hunt with an early start date and took the first 12 inch buck I saw. He may not even be that big
. I never measured him. I just wanted the meat.
Can't eat Horns my friend!

Pretty typical of a fat covered mature alpine buck. Once they get off the top they are lean by the end of the rut. Pretty good eats for the critters up on the peaks tho.

Calvin;
Top of the morning to you sir, I hope the weekend was a good one and this finds you and yours well.
While I'm always reluctant to single out anyone on a thread such as this - and may I interject congratulations to all successful hunters! - I'm somewhat gob smacked at the size of that Sitka!
The one I killed on Haida Gwai was maybe - maybe - a third of that one. Actually the Columbia Blacktail I got on the Gulf Islands was nowhere near that for size either.
That thing is in the class of the bigger Blacktails from up in Pemberton country.
Anyways thanks for sharing the photo of the hunt as I've learned something now sir as I didn't know they could get that size.
Thanks again and again hearty congratulations to all the successful hunters this fall. Good luck to you all on your remaining hunts.

I think it has to do with the close proximity of the camera to the elk and lens size. No one hunting really wants to lug a dedicated camera with a much wider lens around and most pics are probably taken just fitting the animal or its rack in the picture frame. If the pic had been taken from further back, the effect would probably be lessened.
Congrats to the successful hunters!
Thanks guys. No not photoshopped, might be seeming off because the bull is pretty stiff after finding him the next day.
I think it has more to do with the missing G3 on his right, which makes that beam look crazy long, especially when closer to the camera. Very cool elk, congrats!
That's a respectable pronghorn. Nice.
Figured it was about time for you to post a few pics.
Congrats to all the successful hunters. Not sure how some of you do it in that heat though. When it's in the 60's here for the beginning of bow season that is too hot for me.
Not mine but my sons first archery Antelope this year in Utah.
Combo of sloshing in a puddle, raking on some alders and bull grunts. This one responded within about 5 minutes. Prolly walked 1/2 mile straight to us, grunting the entire way. Pretty fun, but my buddy got kind of nervous when the thing got real close. I picked up him about 150 yards away.
Funny thing was we both climbed the same tree the nite prior to the opener. The commotion of that and breaking some limbs for sight and shooting lanes brought a young bull (30" ?) right into us. He stayed there about 1/2 hr trying to figure out what was going on.
J - not a drop of rain the entire trip.
Also, they added two subsistence tags to this year's quota for Berners Bay. Heard two guys from Thorne Bay scored them. No idea whether they were successful - any word on your end?
Damn nice pile of groceries. 👍

I didn’t hear anything. Might need to put in next year.
Thanks. We are heading in about 9 days for our moose hunt. Low odds on kuiu but it’s our yearly tradition.
AK folk, how does ADGF decide if a moose is legal in a 50-inch minimum (for example) area, when one side is busted off? Double the existing side? Just curious, cuz I'd want to shoot him ...
ANY bull tag. He was 50" +
Brought the antlers and lower jaw section (required) to ADF&G. On the hunt report card, they have a place for how wide. I told the tech he could estimate it pretty easy. He wasn't interested. The only data they collected was that it had one right-side brow tine. They will age it from the teeth - which is probably the most important data to them.
I think they still have to be 50". So, pretty tough to do on a one-horner. If it were "double the big side", you'd see a lot more one-sided moose, after the fact...
We saw two different bulls with horn issues this year. One was a 3 point (barely), and thus not a legal spike/fork. Other was about this size of MM's, but he got shot as his little side formed a spike. Didn't get shot by us, and don't know what F&G would do with it.

A general question, not about your bull.
Maybe they want one-horned bulls to walk. Unless of course, the one horn meets minimum
Now that'd be cool!
Colorado Muzzy Bull
Nice Bill, I start on the 3rd for musket Roosevelts.
That's a decent bull. A muzzy elk is on my bucket list for sure. I've got a few CO elk points - what unit did you hunt?. Musket looks like an Omega. What bullet/powder did you use? and did you upgrade your iron sights? I have an Omega and definately want to put a peep sight on it.
Unit 13 which is part of unit 11. 3 points should get you a tag. My load was a 350 gr Federal BOR Lock over 110 gr of BH 209. I put an EABCO sight on mine. If you do that you may want to put a lower front sight on. I ran out of vertical adjustment on the peep trying to raise point of impact.
I had read quite a few good reports on terminal performance of this bullet but they seem a little soft to me. I hit the bull a little lower and further back than I wanted. Caught the back of one lung and destroyed the liver but the bullet didn't exit. It was flattened out under the hide on the offside. I'm not sure if it even hit a rib. I definitely wouldn't try to shoot through the shoulder with it.

You look younger than I feel.
I'm glad you're able to hunt, kill, & retrieve (however) a bull.
N I C E

Jerry
Thanks Jerry! I'm 63 and hopefully have a few more elk hunts left in me
. I was hunting with an outfitter and we loaded the bull into the back of a Ranger and drove him back to camp. I don't have many friends who can afford to hunt out west at this point and I'm not real anxious to try and get an elk out on my own at my age.
Here's a pic of the EABCO Aperture sight. As you can see the peep is at the top of the adjustment range. I thought I'd drop a set of rings on the base and mount my scope but with the peep that high it would hit the tube on my scope with medium rings. I'm just going to reinstall my old base to keep the scope nice and low.
Yep - I've got the exact same setup and, like you, found I needed a different front sight and that my scope would hit the aperture. Not exactly how EABCO markets it.
Colorado has the best MZ seasons of all the states that I apply for. NV has a few rut hunts, but they are awfully hard to draw.
I'll probably roll with a Thor bullet when I go elk hunting in CO.
Bill
I'm 70 and yes, I could make the hunt. However there's no way I could PACK out an Elk that size or Moose.
At 63, I could have. I have 3 health issues that limit my packing abilities. Torn knee being the most painful.
IF you pay for my 'outfitter with a truck', I'd go IF I had to borrow the $$$.
Congrats Again.
Jerry
Muskeg,
I'd say it depends on what bullet you're shooting. EABCO does offer a lower front sight for $20 that I'm going to buy in case I use the peep again. I was also going to go with Thor bullets. I went through the whole thing with the sizing pack ended up shooting 300 gr Ballistic Tip .501's. Even though they seem to be the right size they're still tough to load. I picked up the Federal BOR Lock's at Cabela's while getting more powder. They were much more consistent than the Thor's so I decided to use them.
Jerry, I had a torn meniscus in my left knee but an arthroscopy fixed it up before I retired. My son is going with me somewhere next year. We'll figure that out this fall/winter. Thanks!
Colorado Muzzy Bull
Congrats, Bill_N!
I use the same EABCO rear aperture on my CVA Accura V2. I really like it. I also had to install a Williams fire sight front sight as it is quite a bit lower than the CVA factory sight. I killed my Co. cow at 142 yards with my home cast and powder coated Lee REAL 320 gr. bullets. They shoot awesome out of my rifle when combined with Blackhorn 209 powder.
I had 2 tags and was able to take her calf at 184 yards.
My good buddy was also able to hang his tag on a real nice 6 point. He shoots an Accura with a SeeAll open sight and 300 gr. Thor's.
It was a very Hot, dry, dusty and tough hunt but we were able to fill out. Public land DYI hunt. 2 of the tags came off the leftover list.
Good to see some tags getting filled.
Todd
Great shooting Todd! How was the penetration with your home cast bullets and the Thor?
We didn’t capture a single bullet. 3 shots, 3 dead elk. My buddy killed his bull at 25 yards with the Thor. Complete pass through with awesome terminal performance.
Todd
My antelope buck for 2020. Nothing big, but it was a fun stalk. 1 shot with my old M1 and down he went. 237 yards, which is not hard to do with a good M1, but I had hoped to get real close like I have the last few years. He saw me, stood up from his bed in the sage and faced me trying to see what I was. So I was not getting any closer. I had to either let him go (almost did) or take the shot, but I have not been paid in a while and money is a bit tight so I though I better end the season so I didn't have to buy gas to drive over there again. I didn't get a tag for any area close to my home and had to drive about 110 miles to get to the area I drew. Maybe I should have let him go because the paycheck came today, but I didn't know it at the time (3 days ago ---- on Tuesday)

Haha, right...;)
It got dark while I was gutting him, and I glanced up the hill, and saw my lighted nock glowing in the dark, about 50 yards from where he fell, telling me I had to slow down and find the broken shaft inside the cavity before it drew blood on me. And I did...;)

Tough year here in So. Idaho. More out of state hunters than elk. Finally connected on this little 5x5 Sunday afternoon of the last weekend. Not exactly what most people would consider typical elk country, but this little guy was laying in the shade of a big rock along with 7 cows and calves. That is the 'out hole' in the pic. At the shot he was quartering away. Arrow caught him behind the last rib and came out mid opposite shoulder as seen in pic. Bull went about 25 yards and dropped dead. 52 yard shot with my old Hoyt Charger 60# bow and Whackem 100gr 3 blade broadheads on Easton Bloodline arrows. ~ 380gr @ 275 fps. Felt more like mule deer hunting and stalking than elk, but they are where you find them.

Thanks JG, the problem is the big ones don't come around often enuff.
For EVERYONE..... those bucks were
not killed in 2020. I posted them 'gouging' Fotis.
I've posted them before but I used them in FUN today.
The first one was 2007....a very fond memory. I jumped him in a cutover bedded with a doe. Shot him on the run and
he flipped and landed ON HIS BACK, belly and feet UP. I didn't think to take a pic at the time, WISH I had. That was 3 yrs before I joined here.
The second was 2008.... FIRST deer I shot AT with my Black Shadow 300 WM.
This Season doesn't start till Saturday, Muzzleloader only.
THIS year I'm looking for one or BOTH of these bucks.

Rock Chuck I’m a little jealous that a great forky. I’m headed to Idaho on Wednesday to hunt for 10 days.
Several years ago we had a horrendous winter that devastated the fawn crop. They've been slowly rebuilding and this year we're seeing a lot of good young bucks. Last winter was mild and they wintered very well. This one was rolling in fat to the point of obesity and has very nice antlers for a forky. It's been dry all summer but they've had plenty of feed.
I was up there last weekend when you guys got a little rain and snow in the high country. Didn’t see a lot of deer but wasn’t really looking. At least not in unit 45 where I was. I’d shoot that forky in a heartbeat in an open unit. Congratulations

There's a skiff of snow above 9k. We had about 1/4" of rain Tues night in the mountains. It cooled things off and made hunting a lot quieter but didn't do much for wetting the soil.
We have cow tags in units 45 and 52. It opens Nov 1. Were you scouting up there?
I was visiting family and doing a little shooting. Rock be careful on that hunt. I did it last year. Trucks got shot and people got shot at. I hunted the last week and saw one elk. I even had two private ranches I could hunt but the elk were gone. We did find some on the last day and got permission from the land owner but couldn’t make it in because of the deep snow.
Good luck to you.
It certainly wasn't our 1st choice for a hunt but we didn't draw. I'm very familiar with what those roads can be like when there's been some rain. While it's a big unit, they've issued too many tags for 1 hunt. It's nuts.

Saturday night, I had a big 9 point get past me. This weekend muzzle loader comes into play. So maybe he'll show himself again. An hour later I had this doe show up. 10 yards. It's my first deer this year. We're required to kill at least 2 does before we can take our second buck. So I've got one of them out of the way.
That'll work.

Nice work brother, great trip!! Grats
Thanks JMan and others.
It’s the damned best when I can hunt with my brother and show him the loonyness of hunting elk. The Old Goat with cow has taught me a ton through the years as well. It’s pretty danged special to pass it along.
Plus my brother is 22 years younger than me, so I like abusing his strong back!
perfect shot placement on that cow.
The Old Goat got to christen his new 280 with a 160 Accubond.... I think he feels 10 years younger going from a 10+ lb 300 Win to the 7lb 280... Makes a big difference when you're hoofing it all day long.
That's Great for him. (happy icon)
Don't tell him that ALL 300s DON'T weigh 10+ lbs.
There are other rifles not that heavy. Obviously the 280 worked ! Amazing ain't it !
Jerry
Oh yeah, hard to beat the 270/280 really. The 280 is pretty darned good with the bullets available to it nowadays. The 270 ain’t never a slouch.
Orygun Blacktail.
He popped up in a thicket and all I could see was his head and antlers.
Shot him just under the chin. Ranged him at 69 yards after the fact.

My wife and I just finished eating his heart for dinner, which I missed. I tried to heart shoot him, but the bullet entered about 3" to the left of center and missed the heart. Didn't matter, and he fell instantly as the bullet went clear through him lengthwise.
Sorry for exhuming your posting but I like it a lot to see that open sight guns can be used effectively up to 200 yards and more on big game. When was your Garand made? What kind of ammo did you use? Factory, handload?

I hit him in the neck with my Winchester Extreme Weather 300 WSM. A herd of at least 5 snuck up behind me so close I could have almost killed him with a spear! Seriously, it was like 30 yards.

Went on my first mule deer hunt. Picked what I thought was the best unit for a non-res with 2-pts and went after it solo. Had a blast, passed up lots of forkies in several days of hunting, then the snow hit and everything changed. Saw this fella while heading down to the truck. Spent the morning hiking and glassing in earnest. Finally finished grinding/packaging meat yesterday. Some good eats, for sure. 270 with 129 LRX, the streamlined profile definitely aided on the 40 yd shot 😉

Thats excellent for your first mule deer!
I got drawn out for a tag on a refuge here in OK this year. Since I’d taken 2 bucks with my bow this is the only way I could hunt anything antlered in OK for the rest of the season. I spoke to the ranger who gave me some very vague tips but decided that I may be willing to hint a little harder than most of the folks that come here. He told me about a spot that you had to do some real walking to get to, but it was secluded and no one really hunted there. Well, I packed for an all day sit but at 10:00, and after watching about 10 deer, this big 8 point rolled by at about 30 yards. I was hunting on the ground and a little button bucks that had been right next to me saw me move to get on the bigger buck. He huffed and that locked big boy up. As soon as he started trying to sneak around a clomp of trees I have him one in the shoulder. He was quartering to me so I knew he should be good, but he reared up on took off so I levered another round into the 30-30 and gave him a shot of insurance. He went down hard as that one took out the other shoulder.
I was extremely pleased and surprised at the quality of bucks I’d managed to take, but then it sunk in that there’s no access and I’d have a long pack out. I used the gutless method and got all the meat off and laid on a poncho I’d packed in case of rain. Then stuffed it all in my backpack, attached everything else I initially brought, and headed out. The pack was far past overloaded, but I didn’t want to make 2 trips. The rough estimate was 130 pounds for the pack.
I finally made it back to the truck and got the meat on ice. Made a few calls, and cleaned up the parking area as it looked like someone decided to turn it into a dumping ground. I had a hell of a good time and I’m planning on applying to bring my son on a youth hunt here next year. I’ll be applying for me, too.
Sounds like a great hunt. Nice buck!
I really enjoy this thread and sharing with our fellow hunters.
Congrats

Yes, we need some details on that please. That's a hell of a moose.
No, I was not alone. There were four of us in our group. My friend, Clint, was with me when I shot this one. We took the first load of meat out, and met the other two at lunch. The four of us had the whole thing cleaned up by supper time.
I put the whole story in the handgun forum a while back. I hesitated posting the story, originally, because it wasn't exactly textbook. This moose required a little more horsepower to get it ready for the freezer, as you'll soon see.
We spotted the moose below us, 140 yards out, according to the rangefinder. It was an easy, rested shot with my .300 Win mag. The first shot punched through both lungs. The moose reacted at the shot, but he wasn't in a hurry to go anywhere. After the initial reaction, he didn't really seem to be all that phased, and it bothered me that he was still on his feet. Clint watched the moose through his binocular as the bullet hit, "you hit him hard!"
I shot again, a high shoulder shot this time, and he dropped. I remember taking my first moose with a high shoulder shot, so I was satisfied that this moose dropped the same way, but after 20-30 seconds, he got back up again! I sent the third round directly on the shoulder, this time, and dropped him again. "That took a lot!" I remember thinking to myself, "How did I ever kill one of these things with a 7-08?"
From our vantage point on the hill, my Clint watched him as I gathered my pack with the knives and game bags. After about 5 min, I headed down the hill to find him, and Clint stayed up top to guide me to him. I left my rifle at the top of the hill, but I took my 10mm with me in a chest holster. It seemed like a good idea at the time.
Walking in on him, I heard the moose before I saw him. He was on the ground, behind a couple of trees, and facing away from me. He was slumped over and had very labored breathing, but he wasn't quite dead yet. I wanted to keep the skull intact, so that antler measurements could confirm that he was legal. I figured I'd shoot him at the base of his skull to finish him off. Again, it made sense at the time.
After my 10mm barked, he perked right up, and as he was swinging his head around to look at me, I shot him in the neck twice more -- before he stood up! I saw the bullets hit him, right at the neck/head junction, and he just stood up like it was nothing! I was only 10-15 feet away from this guy, and he's now on his feet! I've got to say, moose look a whole lot bigger at stomping distance! I triple-tapped him in the chest, and he went down again. He fell and rolled on his side. His antlers got tangled in a the brush, so he couldn't move his head very well. I quickly moved forward and put one more round in the back of his neck, from an arm's length away. He immediately tensed up from the CNS hit. A few more kicks from his hind legs, and he was down for good.
Then the adrenaline kicked in! What the hell just happened? Was this the toughest moose ever, or just lousy shooting on my part? I don't really know, but a moose is a big enough animal for both, I suppose.
When we gutted and butchered him, we found both lungs were effectively tore up and his chest was full of pooled blood. He also had several broken ribs, a clipped vertebrae, two bullet holes through his shoulder blade, and four pistol rounds in his neck. How he kept getting up, is beyond me.
The antlers measured 54-inches.
We found a 168gr T-TSX from the .300 Win Mag (3300fps with RL-26). It went through the shoulder and came to rest on the far-side shoulder blade, just above the ball and socket joint. It lost a couple of petals, but still retained 85% of its original weight.
I also recovered a 200gr XTP from the near side lung. It broke a rib going in, but didn't penetrate very far. These were handloads, by the way: 12.5gr of AA#9 under the 200gr XTP. I think I'll use FMJs or solids from now on.
Will the 10mm work on moose? Yeah, I guess it did. When this guy stood up, though, I would have felt a lot better with a rifle in my hands.
I forgot to add...
We had to pack the meat about 150 yards, uphill, of course, to get to the 'wheelers. We used frame packs, and the hind quarters were heavy enough you needed help lifting the pack. You couldn't do it by yourself. We all tried, and laughed at each others' failures to lift the pack. What are friends for, after all?
So, two guys lifted the pack as high as they could get it, and the third guy crawled into the shoulder straps from below. Once you stood up, it was manageable, not any fun, but manageable. We took lots of breaks going up that stupid hill!
The next day, we found another 4-wheeler route that would have taken us to within 25 yards of the kill site. Figures...
Enjoying this thread Good to read about other peoples fall hunts.
Thnx Dan for the backstory and pix. Glad you had help.

Bam! Solo hunt, 5 minutes to dark. Best I can do for photos. But I think I am done for the year unless we go to Kansas.

Montana pronghorn. Spotted him about 1 mile away bedded with a group of does. The winds were really ripping 50 to 60 mph so stalking easing. About a hundred yard shot as he was bedded down looking at me.

That's the way to stack em! Well done.
Awesome pics and nice job ribka
I posted this pic in the 2020 deer thread too, but what's another repeat?
Last day Montana mule deer. Not my biggest by any stretch, but that's OK. I really did think he was 4-5 inches wider than he really is...a smaller body than usual makes antler size deceiving. That's OK though. I'm perfectly happy with him.
.223 Rem at about 100 yards.
Good stuff, congrats to all.
Dang Greg, save some huge deer for the rest of us. Nice work man
Greg

Nothing fancy or special. Just meat for the freezer.
Got this guy yesterday. Been passing on dinks and having bad luck last couple of years. Finally things came together for me. 120ish yards, 200 gr partition from 06. TX heart shot, went in and destroyed left hip, made soup of the intestines in the ass end, somehow avoided all other organs except one lung as it crossed diagonally through the body and came to rest after breaking a rib (4th back from the front). Bang fugking flop. Surprised it didn't exit, this was the first time I killed anything with that load.

Gruff, you're a handsome "ass shooter" !
No comment on the white claw.
Well done mate.
Makin meat is where it's at !

Green light & red dot specials behind my house. Oldest and I walked back to a stand I have there and pulled down a good sow for some freezer filler. Been just boars so far this year. Little guys came back at dark, so I lined them up and lit them up. We can now do that year-round in LA. Blue box Federal .308 150s work just fine.
Local guy makes great pineapple and pepperjack smoked link sausage, and the kids have been waiting on it.
Heres another product of Green Kill light/Red Dot of Doom with my .222
I put my heart and soul into killing this guy's pack leader this year, and today was my last chance. I have a personal vendetta and history with the Alpha male of this pack...He's a steer and a horse killer and distinctively dark colored, with that blunt nosed "look" mature males get. The pic is blurry but based on this guy's track size, I believe this is a younger wolf and not the one I really have been chasing. MFWP got involved (and maybe USDA), but were unsuccessful in totally ridding this pack.
I had the Alpha at 40 yards a few years ago while turkey hunting, and called both him and another into range of a friend of mine in 2018, when the "other" got whacked. I never saw them that day and purposefully had the guy I was with sit 3-400 yards downwind of where I was calling. I've caught glimpses of what I suspect was him (the Alpha) a few more times the last couple of years. I wouldn't doubt I have seen this guy in the picture, but can't confirm that. I did not get any pics of my nemesis nor actually see him this year...but saw his distinctive tracks so I am positive he is still alive.
In 2015 I messed up big time with a black member of his pack at 200 yards...couldn't positively ID it from a bear until it got into the trees.
Until next year......
What state are you in? Here in Idaho, most of the wolf seasons are open year round. Of course any wolf season is better than no season.

That pack is behind my mom's place in western Montana...where I have hunted since a teenager. The season is open until March 15 but I no longer live there (here). I come back to hunt it every year and am flying out at 7:30 tomorrow morning. I told my niece I'd take her out for a whitetail this evening, else I'd still be trying for him.
Thanks! My Wyoming elk hunt was a bust which was disappointing.... But that's the way it goes. Did get the kid a couple bucks which was awesome. One cow elk tag to go.
Congrats Andy - looks like you had another successful season. All fine animals really like that blacktail - nice buck!!

Thanks! I was hunting her out of a tree stand and had a bomber blacktail come it at 40 yards behind the stand. Apparently he caught me moving because when I finally noticed him we were already in a staring contest.... He decided it was time to leave before the kid could get on him. Sneaky bastards.
S H A Z A A M !!

I would say that you have had a great season! Congratulations
I've been fortunate enough to hunt Montana for around 12 seasons now, but have never taken a whitetail out there before this season. Fell in love with mule deer hunting my first trip out there, and have been fortunate to take a few nice bucks along the way. I was watching a meadow with several smaller bucks and does/yearlings when I happened to glance behind me. Noticed a big body out at about 600 yards. The closer he got, the more interested I got, but I still didn't know what he truly was. Luckily for me, he starting bumping does and closed to 250 yards with about 20 minutes of light left. Took the shot, and could not have been more pleased when I walked up to him.

Thanks for the kind words, gentlemen. I’ll miss Montana next year, as I’m finally checking one off the bucket list and doing a DIY drop in Alaska moose with a great friend. But, I’m already booked in Montana for 2022.
That’s a great whitetail congratulations. Proof that no matter what the species there’re are dandy’s to be found.

Most excellent USMC2602 and Thanks for your service!
Just another year of typical pubic land hunting, nothing fancy.
Started out in January of 2020 with a late Wyoming cow for me:
Helped a good friend from Laramie with this elk:
General season WY elk for myself and 3 buddies...all of us shot elk.
Found this bull and since my buddy had never shot a bull, and I've killed a ton of them:
I shot this cow a couple days later, one of my other buddies shot a spike about an hour earlier too:
My other friend with his cow, all of us tagged out:
My Dad drew a breaks bull tag and a b-tag for a cow in Montana so hit the road to help him in early November. Worked out right fair, good to see Dad still hunting elk at 75:
And one for the table:
Having hunted elk a lot, I particularly like the youngish cow that fell near the road....
Next up "guiding" my nephews in Montana.
Youngest nephew first, shot this whitetail buck at 120 yards with my late grandfathers .243 and 100 grain nosler solid base bullets:
While walking up this deer we cut 7 sets of elk tracks. I loaded the deer in my pack and decided to track the elk for a while...an hour and a half later we caught up to them. My nephew got a good rest and shot one of the cows, his first elk, from 362 yards with the same .243 and 100 grain solid base bullets. Not a bad couple hours of hunting for a 13 year old:
Oldest nephew got a few days off school so...
Found this buck which he shot with his 7-08 at 383 yards with a 120 grain ballistic tip...excellent shot and his best whitetail so far:
Took a day off from guiding my nephews, on my birthday, found this buck in a place I've hunted for 40 years with a rifle in my hand.
Nephew filled his b-tag on the last day:
Took off to hunt a friends place in Illinois after that, had a chance at a really good buck but had a little trouble with my muzzleloader. So on the last day of the hunt with a few minutes of legal light left, shot this buck. First time I've hunted that far east...by several hundred miles. I saw enough that I'll be going back...for sure.
Having hunted elk a lot, I particularly like the youngish cow that fell near the road....
That makes 3 of us...
Lastly, filled out the balance of the season this last week with a friend from Utah.
He's hunted elk with me quite a bit over the last 10 years or so, we always get it done.
Shot these two out of the same herd last Wednesday, my friends elk:
Mine:
Rounded out the season yesterday with this cow, my 77th elk and last tag for 2020:
Another look:
Dang it Buzz! Great year.
Do you have a walk-in freezer at your place? That’s a bunch of meat on the hook.

Awesome pictures Buzz! What a season!
the good eating kind!
on my earlier pic of the buck with the broken antler, just noticing it, I don't consider myself a trophy hunter, but the bucks with the bigger horns tend to have more meat attached to them.
I didn't know which forum or topic to stick this in, but it is a "success" of sorts I guess, being that it caught something big (170 pounds of pure, ripped muscle and testosterone) in 2020.
It was a first for me and luckily I uh...uh...easily pulled out.......of a #5 coil spring set for what I am guessing was wolf and caught me right on the heel. It was set in the middle of a packed snowmachine trail. I've had bird and lion dogs get caught, but never been myself. Critters travel trails like this to conserve energy instead of tromping through 2-3 feet of snow, so I shouldn't be surprised that someone set this right where they did.
I tried resetting it for the guy but figured I didn't need to scent up the area anymore than I already had, and I didn't have any wax paper or other antifreeze on me.

Well it looks like someone finally accomplished what scads of wily women couldn't. Glad to see you escaped.
Catch me, or allow me to pull out?
One I never allow. The other depends on my mood.

Two hours into my cow season I was able to take this cow at 175yds with my Weatherby Vanguard .300Wby using 180grn TTSX’s
