I've seen the immediate aftermath of 2 Mule Deer taken with 130 SSTs (Hornady factory load) in the .270. Both were good sized mature deer. The first was about 100 yards frontal quartering shot. The guy said there was not much reaction to the shot, but the deer went a few yards and died. We found the bullet while skinning in front of hind quarter and was nicely mushroomed. The second was a bit over 300 yards and broke the shoulders and exited (deer dropped). Not much evidence, but was plenty of penetration in both cases.
