Here would be my three big-game rifle battery if I were to start from scratch today:
1. Primarily for deer and pronghorn, but could be used on elk too: 6.5x55 Swedish/any quality 3-9x scope, using bullets from 100-140 grs for pronghorns to deer, 140-160 grs for elk. 2. Elk-sized game and larger: .30-06/any quality 2-7 scope, using 180-200 gr bullets. 3. Things that bite back-- big bears (if I hunted them): .375 H&H/ any quality scope 1-5 variable, or fixed 2-3x, 300 gr bullets all the way.
