Just wondering about something. Does that little bubble affect the performance of the compass? I was a Quartermaster when I was in the Navy and I manned the helm on ships from the size of a Frigate to an Aircraft Carrier. We used both gyroscopic and magnetic compasses and I don't recall if a bubble was ever an issue. Is the bubble really that big of a deal or was it that he lied about the true condition of it?
My take is that the condition was the issue, that the clear dome was scratched and worn.
