I believe Mulie Mike has several different ranches he outfits on. The Elk in far west Texas, the grand Pecos, are free ranging and were stocked about the same time Arizona and New Mexico were restocking their herds. Used to be an elk tag on the Texas hunting license up till the early 1990s.

Most Elk east of the Pecos river are either high fenced or escaped from high fence although I've heard of some escapee here's that are reproducing around rocksprings and of some I the panhandle that wandered in from New Mexico or colorado

Sometime In the 1990s the state got tired Of managing elk as a game animal west of the Pecos and as an exotic east side and just declared them an exotic state wide
