If the Russians are so big, bad, and scary, why do we work so closely with them on the space program?

We have a lot of common security interests in todays world.
Good chance in my opinion that in the next 50 years it will be Russia and the United States vs. all the places the Muzzies have taken over, which will be most of the world.
