I'm actually A-Ok with my Ruger AR556. An 8 twist barrel shoots the 62 grain Fusion bullets really well. I've got a 1.25x4 Leupold on it with the stock irons zeroed at 200. It functions well with HK and GI mags. Super simple to clean and pretty portable. It's not fancy but it feels like about all of the others I used over the years.

Simple. Sturdy. Reliable. Reasonably accurate. That's all I ask.
Mine happens to be a Bushmaster, 16" barrel, telescoping buttstock. Flip up rear sight (Oh, BUIS in "the lingo") and a nice little 1.5-4x Leupold. Used it on patrol for a few years. Now it's a great coyote rifle, or just something to have in the Jeep. Just in case.
