WildWest,

Fyi, during the last "government shutdown", a large group of WWII combat veterans arrived in DC at the WWII Memorial to find it "closed" & "blocked off".

According to the hostess who was escorting the group, the "antique GIs" promptly pushed aside the barricades & said to the posted NPS police officer, who was to "keep intruders out", that, "We're not intruders., We are WWII veterans & were ARE going inside, as we planned."

One of the GIs, who is a retired Master Chief Petty Officer of the USN, said, "Sonny, you ain't big enough to keep us out of our memorial."

Thereafter, the NPS guy said, "I'm just following orders from my superiors."

The old Master Chief responded, "I understand. You should call Barack ODUMBO & tell him that a retired Master Chief, USN said to, 'go pound sand.' Would you like my name & service number?"

Without another word, the whole group entered & enjoyed visiting their memorial. = NOT another word was said to (or by) the 100 plus veterans.

Truthfully, when I heard about this "confrontation", I truly LOL.
(I can close my eyes & hear my "promoted to Glory" uncle, who was a WWII Navy PO saying the same thing.)

yours, tex
