Pot roast cooks for hours. Won't the stove top option add as much heat as an oven??

Get the crock pot out, and definitely cover it.

I put a salt and pepper rub on it roast, then put a ring of garlic cloves on the bottom of the crock pot. Cook on "low" for about 6 hours. Flip the roast over at the 4 hour mark if you can.

Cook's Country magazine had an article about pot roast a few years ago. They stressed the importance of low , long, moist heat to break down the fatty tissue. Some recipes call for searng the outside of the roast in a hot skillet with oil ( seals in moisture). Tried it. Didn't notice any difference.

If it is hot ( summer) , may not be the best time to cook a pot roast with Dutch oven. Crock pot time.
