You have to be 8ft+ off the ground here to legally use a rifle. When they first allowed taking deer in this area I believe most county officials were afraid the dog hunters would shoot up every house they got near so it was for safety....didn't stop the dog hunters, they used shotguns and sometimes lines of stands/rifles and drive the deer by them. Now they have "bonus" tags for some places because the population has grown so much they are pests. Lots of variation in the laws from one county to the next, pays to read careful before heading out.
