My setters often had this problem, it is not uncommon with long eared dogs. I rinse out the ears with an over the counter ear cleaner for a couple of days after the dogs get wet whether swimming, rain, or dew.
This is pretty much weekly during hunting season and spring when the snow melts. The rest of the year I'll clean the ears once every couple of weeks.
