My Britt didn't like it either, and the stuff from the vet was mild and buffered. Boric acid to lower pH to a microbe unfriendly level and a microbicide IIRC. He didn't mind so much if I had it in my pocket for a while and it was nice and warm. Larry would get a big hug to hold him steady and a good ear rub, his favorite things, so it wasn't such a big deal.
