Semantics. The South still fired the first shots. They didnt fire on the Federal troops in the coastal Forts in Louisiana. They seized the Forts and made POW's of the Federal troops. So yes, the Confederacy chose to fire on Sumter. That's where the aggression began. Not with Lincoln calling up 75,000 volunteers to put down the rebellion.
