When I bought my '01 F250 SD, one of the first things I did was get the spare out from under the truck. I do seem to recall it was a bit of a puzzle.
I just don't like the spare where it's hard to get to, especially off pavement, in the mud, snow, or whatever. Mine lays in the bed of the truck.
