I've never owned or fired a 270 but know of many younger boys who started with one and a few ladies who love theirs. It's got a niche for the recoil sensitive.
I don't think a 243 is more manly than a 270 but I have used one for deer and antelope harvesting many times. The 260 was cool to try out back in the day but the 30 cal and larger cartridges just plain kill better.
