Interesting comparison with VHS/Beta. I think that the the big advantage the P88 had was that it was the standard cartridge of Germany. IMO the 7.65x53 and 7x57 were Paul Mauser’s creation to help with military sales abroad. The big competitor to Mauser was Styer Mannlicher for military sales around the world. I agree with your assessment of the 9.3x62. I have never used it but it is a great medium bore cartridge and makes a great companion to the 98 Mauser rifle action.
