In other words you wanted the pay but not the troop responsibility that went along with it.
But could do your individual job well.
While others your same pay grade would be in charge of large elements of people.

You would have never had been able to go beyond E4 in the Army.
Leaders would have done counseling on you to keep you from going to the E5 or E6 board.
I have done it many times to good E4 workers.

Or reenlist for a soft shell MOS cause in The Infantry you have to lead and move up and know your schit and run large groups of soldiers.
Need leaders not followers or those blending comfortably into the background.
Nothing reallly wrong with how you are for certain tyoes of jobs.
CG probably was your best option, you probably thought it all out well beforehand based on the teamwork leader driven enviorment you experienced and disliked in the army.
