My opinion has not changed since the OP started this thread. That opinion is the .257 Roberts is more than adequate for the big game that I have used it on. Mountain goat, Antelope, Mule deer and Whitetail deer. Then my youthful thought process asked would more be better and I laid down the cash for a used Model 70 24" bbl 25-06. Used it on some Mule and Whitetail deer, but I lost interest and sold it.

These days I use it as Ned Roberts wanted, a deer and varmint rifle. Shoot some deer with 100 gr bullets and coyotes and ground hogs with Hornady 75 gr V-Max. I have a Ruger 77 black pad that shoots lights out with the V-Max. 42 grs H4895 @ 3300 fps.
